Keep an eye on that horizon

We’re a couple weeks into 2018, a time where I’ve typically reneged on a couple of those resolutions I made in the late hours of Dec. 31. This year, I decided to try a new tactic. Rather than just give up after the first couple failures, I’m looking at the bigger picture and reminding myself that there’s still 354 days to make my goals.

While that seems like a long time, I also know those days are already passing quickly and I’ve got to keep my eye on that end goal. But, in looking ahead to actually going through with my resolutions, I’m also reminded of everything else we have to look forward to in 2018.

Watching the boys basketball teams make some huge strides this past weekend during the Big Horn Basin tournament, I’m excited to see how they and the girls’ teams progress the rest of the season. Seriously, if you haven’t taken the opportunity to come out and cheer for these ballers, there’s only a few home games left.

Speaking of sports, it won’t be long until the tracksters start hitting the lanes and pits, which means the annual end to this cold and wet weather is coming up fast. I’m already coming up with weekend trip ideas to break the cabin fever up a bit.

School’s back in full force, with classes, sports and other extracurricular activities keeping students’ and parents’ schedules busy. Speech & Debate, Robotics, Choir, Band and numerous other student groups will be performing and competing in Thermopolis and elsewhere.

Outside school activities, 2018 also means another year full of activity in town, including ArtStrolls, concerts, jam sessions, craft fairs, shopping events and other celbrations.

Keep in mind, it’s also an election year so keeping up on what races are open and what the candidates are promising is important before you his the polls.

Whether you’re one to make resolutions or not, keep one eye always looking forward to those opportunities to do something different this year, whether it be something you keep to yourself or share with the world. Start now to make 2018 a year to remember.
