Get involved

January not only brings a new year our way, it also means a “changing of the guard” for various county boards, including the county commissioners.

Leadership is one of those things that can be either a blessing or a burden, depending on how you approach it. Many people have no desire to hold those leadership positions, preferring to stay in the background and quietly contribute their time and effort.

On the flip side are those who are elected or appointed to leadership roles and take those responsibilities very seriously. They are also the ones who take the heat when things don’t go quite the way they were expected to.

Kudos to those who take on these roles and the late-night phone calls from upset citizens or other board members. Hats off to the ones who have to research every little detail before forming their opinion.

A special thanks to those who have volunteered to be on the various boards, too, who take time out of their busy lives to ensure everything runs smoothly.

But there is always room for one more.

This year, if you’ve ever considered being a part of one of these boards, now is the time to step up. Make it your New Year’s resolution to become more involved in your community.
