Cost of Thermopolis government

The State of Wyoming Department of Audit recently released a report on the cost of maintaining city government for the fiscal year of July 1, 2016, to June 30, 2017.

The report provides information in fund revenues and expenses, as well as what the cost is per taxpayer.

According to the report, the Enterprise Fund revenue total was $2,655,831, broken down to: Garbage — $464,191; Sewer — $690,283; Solid Waste — $193,515; and Water — $1,307,842.

The total Enterprise Fund expenditures were $2,339,305, including: Garbage — $322,532; Landfill — $319,685; Sewer — $580,379; and Water — $1,116,709. The cost per person (Enterprise) is $777.

The total from other revenue is $2,833,700, including: Licenses, permits and other taxes — $188,034; Other misc. revenue — $419,110; Property taxes — $247,316; Revenue from Federal Government — $6,000; Revenue from Local Government — $577,338; and Revenue from State Government — $1,395,902.

Total other expenditures were $2,740,752, including: Animal control — $30,253; Central administration — $104,207; Construction — $649,132; Correction including jail — $55,290; Financial administration — $148,993; Fire department — $81,110; General public buildings — $48,648; Highways, streets and alleys — $546,590; Interest — $25,120; Justice and legal — $69,938; Parks/recreation/museums — $90,085; Police — $856,800; and Protective inspection — $34,586

The cost per person for other expenditures is $911. The total town revenue is $5,489,531, with total expenditures of $5,080,057. The total cost per person is $1,688.
