On the Record policy

It is the Thermopolis Independent Record’s policy that all people arrested or cited under the “Accidents,” “Sheriff’s office” or “Police department” in the On the Record section are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.

Sheriff’s office

Thursday, Dec. 14

10:48 a.m. A property damage accident was called in about six miles south of town. A deputy responded and could not locate any indication of an accident.

11:24 a.m. Report of a subject who fell on some ice and needed a lift assist.

12:12 p.m. Female subject reported fraudulent activity on her back account.

3:31 p.m. Complainant reported she felt a rim on her vehicle had been damaged. The responding deputy inspected the rim, but didn’t feel it was intentionally vandalized.

Friday, Dec. 15

8:58 a.m. Report of an alarm at a business. It appeared the alarm was likely set off by an employee who did not know how to shut it off.

9:11 a.m. Subject requested a trespass notice on a subject who lived in the county.

12:18 p.m. Report of an alarm at a business, which was determined to be an accidental trip of the system.

2:42 p.m. Complainant reported a trailer parked at the old airport that was not supposed to be there. It was determined the trailer could be there, but there was some miscommunication on the matter.

5:53 p.m. Report of an incident involving pharmaceutical drugs. The matter is under investigation.

9:19 p.m. Welfare check requested on a subject and children. All were found to be OK.

Saturday, Dec. 16

8:35 a.m. Report of an abandoned vehicle at a business. The registration was looked up, but the phone number for the owner was no longer used. The business elected to have the vehicle towed.

11:39 a.m. Report of rocks on the highway in the canyon. The reported rocks could not be located.

12:24 p.m. Report from the Missouri Flats area of livestock out. The area is open range, though the owner was contacted and advised the cows had returned to their own pasture.

4:05 p.m. Accidental tripping of an alarm at a business.

6:50 p.m. Report of suspicious activity north of town. The matter is under investigation.

Police department

Tuesday, Dec. 12

7:49 a.m. Report of a vehicle parked in an alley. The vehicle was not claimed and was towed.

Wednesday, Dec. 13

2:29 a.m. A business requested an officer for an intoxicated subject. The subject was not in the area when the officer arrived.

4:04 p.m. Accident reported involving a male subject backing into a vehicle.

Thursday, Dec. 14

8:21 a.m. Report of a driver hitting a wall in the state park. The driver was contacted and said he did a “cookie” but did not hit the wall.

Saturday, Dec. 16

2:44 a.m. An officer noticed a vehicle parked at a business. Upon contact, it was found two runaway juveniles from Riverton had stolen a vehicle and drove it here. The juveniles were detained, with the driver receiving four citations, until their guardians arrived.

7:36 p.m. Report of a missing extension cord. The cord had been hidden by the snow, and was recovered by the officer.

7:58 p.m. Report of a semi stuck on Hospital Hill. Traffic control was provided until the semi could be moved.

9:29 p.m. Complainant reported harassing phone calls from a Connecticut number and wanted officers to find out who it was. The complainant was further advised to block the number.

Sunday, Dec. 17

2:57 a.m. Officer responded to a verbal fight between a couple. The male subject was not being allowed in the house because he had been at the bar, and was taken to a location to sleep it off.

Monday, Dec. 18

2:25 p.m. A utility box was struck by a vehicle. The driver was located and provided his information.

5:06 p.m. Report of a buck running around town with a broken leg. The animal could not be located.

Circuit court

Jeff Schroeder was found guilty of reckless endangering and was sentenced to 60 days in jail with 57 days suspension and six months unsupervised probation. Fees and fines are $205.

Lisa Mankin was found guilty of breach of peace and was sentenced to two days in jail. Fees and fines are $305.

Benjamin Schoeffield was found guilty of possession of a controlled substance and was sentenced to 30 days in jail with 30 days suspension and six months unsupervised probation. Fees and fines are $255.

Holly Herrera was found guilty of interference with a peace officer and was sentenced to 10 days in jail.

Warranty Deed: Champion Investment Group LLC to Carole Jones, Lot 28, Candy Hills Subdivision to the Town of Thermopolis.

Warranty Deed: Bryce Jennings to LaVern Cornish and Linda Cornish, Lots 9 and 10, Block 36, Original Townsite of the Town of Thermopolis.

Summary Decree of Distribution: Lots 22, 23, and 24, Block 41, Original Townsite to the Town of Thermopolis are distributed and set over to Marie Britting.

Warranty Deed: Sage Valley Inc. to Richard Beck and Teresa Beck, Lot 65, Sage Valley Subdivision, Hot Springs County.
