Keep it local

You might be reading this while waiting for all of the Thanksgiving food to finish cooking, or you may have already had your fill and want something to read while your stomach digests and the pans and plates have a chance to soak.

"Turkey Day" is here again, signaling the start of the holiday shopping season with the infamous day after, "Black Friday."

But, before you go running to some chain department store outside of town or searching for gifts online, take a look around town at what our local businesses are offering. There are plenty of opportunities to take advantage here that are unique as well as easy on the wallet. Plus, you don't have to worry about whether the roads will remain open.

However, along with the commercial businesses buildings downtown don't forget to patronize those at-home businesses we have as well. Many people around town have taken the time to be retailers for products, and they are just as deserving of our time during this shopping season. If you ask around a bit, you're sure to find something to fit the people on your list.

And remember, shopping here in Thermopolis, whether it be at a store or someone's home, means your money stays local. It goes to helping ensure we have thriving business community. Those businesses, in turn, often donate to projects around town so everyone benefits.

So, as you're checking your lists this season, think about who you can see locally to find those perfect gifts and help everyone have a happy holiday season.
