WDE releases school performance report

The Wyoming Department of Education recently released their school performance report for 2016-17, listing math, reading and science proficiency for each district based on PAWS and WY-ALT tests.

Third and fourth graders at Ralph Witters Elementary took the PAWS tests with the following results:

Third grade math: 15.22 percent below basic, 26.09 percent basic, 41.30 percent proficient and 17.39 percent advanced. Totals are 41.30 percent doing math at basic or below basic and 58.70 percent are doing math in a proficient or advanced level.

Third grade reading: 17.39 percent below basic, 28.26 percent basic, 34.78 percent proficient and 19.57 percent advanced. Totals are 45.65 percent reading at basic or below and 54.35 percent are reading at a proficient or advanced level.

Fourth grade math: 12.73 percent below basic, 27.27 percent basic, 40 percent proficient and 20 percent advanced. Totals are 40 percent are doing math at a basic or below basic level while 60 percent are proficient or advanced.

Fourth grade reading: 12.73 percent below basic, 23.64 percent basic, 40 percent proficient and 23.64 percent advanced. Totals include 36.6 percent of students reading basic or below and 63.64 percent reading at a proficient or advanced level.

Fourth grade science: 12.73 percent below basic, 27.27 percent basic, 38.18 percent proficient and 21.82 percent advanced. Totals show 40 percent doing science at a basic or below basic level while 60 percent are proficient or advanced.

Fifth through eighth graders at Thermopolis Middle School were tested using PAWS as well, with the following results:

Fifth grade math: 9.8 percent below basic, 29.41 percent basic, 50.98 percent proficient, 9.8 percent advanced. Totals include 39.9 percent doing math at a basic or below basic level and 60.78 percent at a proficient or advanced level.

Fifth grade reading: 11.54 percent read below basic, 26.92 percent basic, 46.15 percent proficient and 15.38 percent advanced. Totals include 38.46 percent basic or below basic and 61.54 percent proficient or advanced.

Sixth grade math: 4.17 percent below basic, 20.83 percent basic, 52.08 percent proficient and 22.92 percent advanced. Totals were 25 percent basic or below and 75 percent proficient or advanced in math.

Sixth grade reading: 10.42 percent below basic, 22.92 percent basic, 39.58 percent proficient and 27.08 percent advanced. Totals show 33.33 percent reading at basic or below basic and 66.67 percent are proficient or advanced.

Seventh grade math: 11.32 percent below basic, 32.08 percent basic, 39.62 percent proficient and 16.98 percent advanced. Totals are 43.40 percent doing math at basic or below basic level with 56.60 percent proficient or advanced.

Seventh grade reading: 13.21 percent below basic, 28.30 percent basic, 35.85 percent proficient and 22.64 percent advanced. Those totals are 41.51 percent basic or below in reading and 58.49 percent are proficient or advanced.

Eighth grade math: 4.44 percent below basic, 37.78 percent basic, 40 percent proficient and 17.78 percent advanced. There are 42.22 percent doing math at a basic or below basic level and 57.78 percent are proficient or advanced.

Eighth grade science: 13.33 percent below basic, 35.56 percent basic, 48.89 percent proficient and 2.22 percent advanced. Totals include 48.89 percent basic or below basic and 51.11 percent are proficient or advanced.

The only class on the high school level required to test is 11th grade.

Eleventh grade math: 23.91 percent below basic, 43.48 percent basic, 26.09 percent proficient and 6.52 percent advanced. Totals show 67.39 percent are basic or below basic with 32.61 percent proficient or advanced.

Eleventh grade reading: 28.26 percent below basic, 30.43 percent basic, 30.43 percent proficient and 10.87 percent advanced. Totals include 58.70 percent are reading at a basic or below basic level and 41.30 percent are proficient or advanced.

Eleventh grade science: 30.43 percent below basic, 36.96 percent basic, 28.26 percent proficient and 4.35 percent advanced. Totals are 67.39 percent are basic or below basic in science with 32.61 percent proficient or advanced.
