This weekend, students in Thermopolis FFA will be attending a two-day conference at Douglas High School.
Agriculture Teacher and FFA Advisor Britton Van Heule said primarily freshmen and sophomores will be going to the Finding Inspiration Reaching Excellence (FIRE) conference, while juniors and seniors are attending the Chapter Presidents Conference (CPC). Both events are this Friday and Saturday.
Van Heule further explained the Wyoming FFA Association State Officers put the FIRE conference on, doing leadership workshops with students to be able to help them get the most out of FFA. Those in CPC will do different activities, which will help them be more effective officers for our local chapter.
The events are always a good opportunity for students to set goals on being leaders and get to know people from around the state. Usually done in a gymnasium, Van Heule explained the students are broken up into different base groups that they will spend most of their time with while also rotating through other areas. There are also times when it is the whole group in a particular workshop.
The events start at 5 p.m. Friday and go until 9 p.m. Van Huele said there is usually a dance for them as well that night. On Saturday, activities are scheduled to begin at 8 a.m. and end around 2 p.m.
