Opportunities for all

A couple of weeks ago, I penned a salute to the liberals who had promoted some of the minor things we have in our country such as free public education, the 13th Amendment to the Constitution, women’s suffrage, Social Security, Medicare, etc. which occasioned a response that in point of fact, every thing from athletes foot to dandruff and everything in between was the fault of liberal foolishness.

I felt rewarded that at least someone had actually read something I had written because truth be told, writers, no matter their degree of talent, can stand most anything except being ignored. (Those who would like to ignore this writer may stop reading now.) The most interesting thing about the response was the declaimer that the responder was receiving and benefiting from Social Security and Medicare.

It would indeed be helpful to the civility of our society if we all would remember a simple truth. Liberals, Conservatives, Moderates, all profit together when the lives of our citizens are improved, when opportunity for all is expanded to really mean all, and when haters are truly confined to the “ash heap of history.”
