TMS students crunch some vegetables

Thermopolis Middle School had a special event last week, organized by Becky Martinez’s Farm to School class to celebrate National Food Day.

Montana has been doing “Crunch Time” in their schools for some time, but this is the first time Wyoming has joined in the fun.

Students at TMS and across the state gathered at 2 p.m. on Oct. 24 to “crunch” some fresh fruits and veggies.

Martinez and her class do everything from nutrition to actually growing vegetables to use in the cafeteria. They also have a small flock of chickens in a pen behind the school.

Plans are currently in the works to build a “hoop house” on the property in order to expand their growing capabilities.
