Honoring veterans

In 1954, Congress changed the name of the Armistice Day holiday to Veterans Day, rededicating the day to the memory of service men from all branches of the service.

On Friday, the middle school will be presenting their annual salute to veterans through a program in the auditorium, starting at 9:30 a.m. Everyone, especially veterans, are invited to attend the program. Veterans are invited to come early at 8:30 a.m. and enjoy coffee and donuts with student council members in the lobby of the auditorium.

“The 11th hour of the 11th day of the 11th month” marks the memory of our veterans and VFW Post 2281 will be having a flag raising ceremony, 21-gun salute and a reading of remarks from the president on Saturday at 11 a.m. at the Post.

Hawk’s Avenue of Flags will also be on display at Monument Hill Cemetery on Saturday, from 7 a.m. until 5 p.m., featuring flags presented to loved ones after the burial of their veteran.
