Tuesday night, Thermopolis Town Council had a brief meeting and took action on a couple items.
Council approved a catering permit to allow Shorty’s Liquor to provide alcohol at the Pheasants Forever Banquet, Oct. 28 at the fair building.
A street closure of the north side of Broadway from Fourth to Fifth Street was approved for Dec. 9 from noon until 9 p.m. The closure is for the Tiny Village of Campers put on by People for People. Judy Carswell with the organization explained People for People is a group of people that volunteer time and service to provide meals every Sunday for people in the community who need them.
The group has one fundraiser a year, typically the Holiday Tour of Homes in which people decorate their homes and open their doors to the public to view them. This year, the event will instead feature several small campers and sheep wagons set up on the north side of Broadway and decorated for Christmas.
The event itself will be open from 3-7:30 p.m., though the extra street closure time allows people time to set up and move their vehicles.
Also during the meeting, councilmember Bill Malloy said he’s part of the golf board, and at a recent meeting Donnie Bjorhus requested if the town could provide garbage service at the course and how much it would cost. A large dumpster from Waste Management has been used, but it was felt the dumpster was not needed anymore and something smaller might suffice.
Mayor’s Assistant Fred Crosby pointed out the town does own the golf course. Though the restaurant has closed, it was pointed out a couple holiday events are planned there. And the golf course still sees plenty of regular activity. Clerk/Treasurer Tracey Van Huele said she would visit with Malloy further about the matter.
Town Engineer Anthony Barnett provided a quick update on the 12th Street project, noting it should be paved within the coming week.
