Lady Cats hit the road for next three games

With the regional volleyball tournament just two weeks away, the Lady Cats took on Buffalo at home last Friday before heading across the state to Newcastle on Saturday.

Friday night's matches against Buffalo honored the senior girls as it was Senior Night for both volleyball and football.

"Senior night is always a little rough for our girls," coach Shannon Hill said.

They dropped the first game 14-25, but rallied and played well in game two for a win, 25-23.

"We needed to prove to ourselves that we can play with these bigger teams," Hill said. "Although we didn't end up with a win, I was proud of most of the play I saw from our team. They needed a little confidence boost."

Unfortunately, the Lady Cats dropped the next two matches, 4-25 and 17-25.

Sesi Jensen had seven kills against Buffalo and Kelly Johnson had two blocks. Alex Russel had 14 digs for the day and Ashley McPhie finished things up, adding three aces to the scoresheet.

"We really needed this win against Newcastle," Hill said about Saturday's win.

They were actually missing a middle hitter, but Hill said the different rotation was handled well. It took them a minute to settle in, but once they did, they kept control of the match.

The hitters were swinging away and did very well at the net with Sesi Jensen and Mary Ryan recording seven kills each.

Tyne Vialpando stepped in and added another five kills while Hannah Hurley dropped thee aces from the service line and Jensen added a pair of blocks.

Final scores against Newcastle were: 25-23, 25-17 and 25-9

"We are still improving and will continue to improve and play tough until regionals, when it counts," Hill said.

The Lady Cats are in Rawlins today (Thursday) and hit the road again next weekend when they travel to Douglas on Friday and Buffalo on Saturday.
