Cross country gearing up to host regionals

The cross country team saw high placings again as they competed at the Powell Invite last Friday. It was also the conference meet for the middle school runners, and coach Stephanie Metz said the runners’ times were not where they anticipated but their placings were.

Regarding the middle school students, Metz said there is a lot of good talent returning next year and the program will continue to grow.

Metz noted there were a lot of great races at the meet, with many Thermopolis runners going neck-and-neck against their competition but able to beat them out at the end.

As for the competition, Metz said it’s always good to see Cody at a meet and give the Bobcats an opportunity to run against them. She noted McKenna Bomengen did well in not letting any of the Cody runners pass her. Olivia Weyer and Tahja Hunt also had good runs, Metz said.

Things are looking excellent going into the 3A East Regional competition at the Thermopolis Golf Course this Friday. Metz said they were starting their taper this past Monday, decreasing their intensity or mileage. They are continuing their gym workouts, but cutting out the weights.

Varsity girls will race at 2 p.m., followed by boys at 2:45 p.m. with an awards ceremony scheduled for 3:30 p.m.

Metz said they will run the course Thursday, and with the addition of runner Trinity Bowman she believes they should be able to win regionals.
