Cowgirls are wanted for the Thermopolis Cowboy Rendezvous PRCA Rodeo queen and senior princess contest. The event is scheduled for 9 a.m. on Saturday, Oct. 28 at the Hot Springs County Fairgrounds.
Contestants compete in one of two categories: Senior Princess — ages 16-18 — and Queen — ages 19-24. Contestants are judged on horsemanship, personality and appearance. Horsemanship, including reining pattern completion, free riding and carrying a flag, personal interview, speech, impromptu speaking, modeling and general knowledge are categories in which a contestant must score 70 percent or better to be selected to represent the Cowboy Rendezvous PRCA rodeo.
The rodeo royalty are a bridge between the seats and the arena as well as ambassadors for this community and the entire Big Horn Basin.
The first queen was selected in 1936 and since that time, excluding brief periods, royalty has reigned serving as envoy to the western way of life. The Thermopolis Cowboy Rendezvous PRCA Rodeo Queen Committee is dedicated to preserving the tradition of rodeo royalty while bringing recognition to the sport of rodeo and honor the hard working individuals who represent their country by being great role models.
Cassie Owsley said the queen will travel to other rodeos in the state and represent the Cowboy Rendezvous PRCA Rodeo. It is also hoped the queen will participate in the Wyoming State Fair Queen Contest.
