Walk Thermop event Saturday

Those who have an interest in photography and want to put their skills to the test can join the Walk Thermop this Saturday, from 3-4 p.m. in Hot Springs State Park.

Gemdelin Jackson, who organized the event, explained it is done through Scott Kelby’s Worldwide Photowalk, currently in its 10th year. Jackson said there was only one event in Wyoming — in Cheyenne — so she decided to have one here as well.

Walk Thermop will begin at the amphitheater in the park. Participants will walk around the terraces and the park, taking pictures as they go and finishing the hour-long event back at the amphitheater. Walkers can then submit one photo they took to Jackson, who will pick the winner of the local contests. There are divisions for 16 and younger, and 17 and older, with a winner in each.

The winners’ pictures will also be sent on to the overall Scott Kelby contest with a chance to win an EOS M5 EF -M 18-1500 mm lens kit or other prizes. There will be one grand prize winner and 10 finalists, with the winner announced Oct. 29.

Jackson said the local event will provide an opportunity for photographers to have fun, ask questions and gain some confidence with their cameras. Even if people don’t have cameras, there will be a couple available to use. Jackson also encourages those without cameras to come as they can learn how to take better pictures.

There are 50 spots open as of Monday, and people must register online by visiting worldwidephotowalk.com/walk/walk-thermop. Though the event is free, donations are accepted and will go to the Springs of Hope Kenya Children’s Home.
