The annual summer picnic hosted by the Hot Springs County Historical Society, Pioneer Association and Hot Springs County Museum is scheduled for Saturday, Sept. 9 at Legend Rock.
While past years have seen a gathering area with a caravan to the picnic site, those attending this year should meet at Legend Rock at 11:30 a.m., with the potluck scheduled for noon, weather permitting.
Chicken and drinks will be provided, but please bring a dish — salad, veggie or dessert — to share with others, as well as your own table service, chairs, cameras, jackets or anything else you might need.
Though there is no formal program, people will be able to take a self-guided tour of the Legend Rock petroglyphs either before or after lunch.
Keep in mind it takes about 35-40 minutes to drive to Legend Rock, so plan to leave about 10:45 a.m. For those unfamiliar with the route, from the stoplight take Highway 120 west about 21 miles to Upper Cottonwood Creek Road — sign reads to Hamilton Dome and Legend Rock. Turn left and travel about five miles to a sign pointing to Legend Rock. Turn right onto the gravel road and travel about two miles to a sign showing the road to Legend Rock.
