Rarely in life are we blessed with truly “tingly” moments. Not those hair raising moments, but the ones that are breathtaking.
I know some folks around here couldn’t understand what all the “hub-bub” was about, why people were coming across vast oceans to our little town to see an eclipse. For some, it was going to be an inconvenience they didn’t want to deal with.
We’re pretty set in our ways and having that many people coming to town was a bit scary for some. I can’t tell you how many times I heard people say they were just going to stay at home.
Oh, but the fun they missed.
With an influx of thousands, we fed them, we housed them, and we entertained them. I talked with people from California to Florida, France, England and Italy. I know there were a lot more countries represented after talking with friends.
But the most amazing thing?
Not just in our hometown, but across the country, people of the world gathered at the specified time. They looked to the heavens and for just a few moments we all forgot about hatred. We all came together in those few moments to experience something as one people. Race, religion and politics were forgotten for just a little while.
To hear the cheers of the people at the second totality arrived was my “tingly” moment.
Let’s not forget how that felt.
