The Wyoming Department of Transportation (WYDOT) has several projects in mind over the next five years for Hot Springs County.
Using funding from the State Transportation Improvement Program (STIP), WYDOT is able to do capital improvement project state wide.
Determining which projects are most needed comes down to input from the public, engineers, the Wyoming Transportation Commission and WYDOT.
In 2018, East River Road will be seeing 4.3 miles of new guardrail installed and WY 20-789, Thermopolis to Worland will have safety improvements for approximately .44 miles.
Lucerne north will see a good amount of pavement rehab, 6.8 miles, in 2019. That will also be the year the airport gets a new seal coat and markings for the runway, aprons and parking area.
Wind River Canyon will have 15 miles of slide repair in 2020, although WYDOT will have a more proactive role in the canyon after the myriad issues this spring. There will also be pavement rehab done on 5.08 miles of WY 20-789 and an SRE acquired for the airport.
Finally, in 2022, WYDOT will be conducting a planning study and mowing equipment is on the list for acquisition for the airport.
