The Smokin’ Waters Golf Tournament was held July 14-15, along with a Night Golf Tournament hosted by the high school golf program.
Nine teams followed the glow sticks along the course at the night tourney and tried their hand at hitting glow in the dark golf balls that would eventually find their way into a 6” hole that was silhouetted by glow sticks in the holes.
Winners of the night golf were Parke Price, Travis McDermott, Ethan Brooks and Colt Russel who each received pro shop credit of $150.00. The second place team consisted of Valerie Bjorhus, Dana Bjorhus, Emmy Hergert and Jessica Smith who each received $75.00 of pro shop credit.
Hot Springs County 4-H hosted the 2nd day of play and had 22 teams of four compete for over $10,000 in cash and prizes. Prizes included pro shop credit, all golfers were eligible for bucket drawings for golf equipment such as a Callaway Driver, golf bag, Scotty Cameron Putter, a one-year pass for two people to the Ritz Theatre, Oakley Sunglasses donated by Thermopolis Eyecare and over 36 Pizza’s donated by Pizza Hut just to name a few.
Pinnacle Bank of Thermopolis donated $1,000 for a putting contest and the top three putters in the competition took home the prize money. First place went to John Herrin, second went to Josh Craft of Worland, and third place went to Erin Craft of Worland.
Winners of the calcutta were Valerie and Donnie Bjorhus who bought the team of Heath Overfield, Hadley Johnson, Hardy Johnson and Joey Johnson. Matt and Lisa Bowman won second place with the purchase of the team of Bob Ryan, Carrie Ryan, Bob Uffleman and Kay Uffleman. Third place went to Ethan Brooks with the purchase of the team of John Kiser, Erin Craft, Josh Craft and TR Roberts of Worland.
Pro Shop credit was given to the top three placing teams gross and net. Third place team gross score was Lisa Bowman, Matt Bowman, Jason Bowman and Maggie McWilliams. Third place team net Ssore went to John Kiser, Erin Craft, Josh Craft and TR Roberts. Second place gross team went to Parke Price, Travis McDermott, Ethan Brooks and Binky Fisher. Second place pet went to Bob Ryan, Carrie Ryan, Bob Uffleman and Kay Uffleman. First place gross team was John Herrin, Jason Ciz, Dusty McLean and Hardy Johnson. First place net team went to Heath Overfield, Hadley Johnson, Hardy Johnson and Joey Johnson
Closest to the Pin Jackpots were the largest ever given out during the tournament. Winners averaged an $800 payout this year.
Hole 2 Closest to the pin winner was Kathy Caines from TenSleep, Hole 5 Closest to the pin winner was John Herrin from Thermopolis and Hole 8 Closest to the pin winner was Arlea McCumber also of Thermopolis.
“The Hot Springs County 4-H tournament committee would like to thank all of our sponsors this year and all of the players that came out to enjoy the fun,” said 4-H educator Joey Johnson. “We would also like to thank all the volunteers that help this tournament run so smoothly. We sincerely appreciate the time and effort that you give to the 4-H program.”
Monies earned from this tournament were in excess of $13,000 this year, and go to programming youth learning opportunities in over 59 different project areas.
The money raised in 2016 reached over 350 kids in our community last year and they hope to continue to grow and reach more youth in a positive way that reinforces strong youth development and community values in 2017 and beyond.
