The Third Annual Big Horn Basin Folk Festival will be held Saturday and Sunday, August 5 and 6, in Hot Springs State Park. There is still time to sign up to participate as an artist or vendor or food purveyor.
The festival program already includes a robust line-up of Wyoming’s own artists, craftsmen, musicians, storytellers, artisan and guild members demonstrations, and hands-on activities for the whole family. A new feature this year will be the Wyoming FolkMasters Tent, sponsored by the Wyoming Arts Council and showcasing individuals dedicated to passing on their traditional skills to others.
The Kiwanis Craft Fair and Trading Post will include other arts and crafts for sale as well as the food court and both will be open on Saturday and Sunday. Interested vendors are encouraged to check http://www.wyomingfolkfestival.com for more details on how to apply for space, or contact Toddi Darlington, toddid@rtconnect.net, or Suzanne Samelson, gatherer@panix.com.
The festival is the same weekend as the Gift of the Waters Pageant Days. The pageant tells how the hot springs were transferred to the state by the Native Americans on the Wind River Reservation. It will be held at 6-7 p.m. in the area around the Big Spring, Saturday and Sunday evening and is free and open to the public.
The Big Horn Basin Folk Festival is open to the public without charge. It is sponsored by Hot Springs Greater Learning Foundation and Hot Springs State Park with support from Wyoming Arts Council, Wyoming State Legislature and Hot Springs Travel & Tourism. Additional support is from Hot Springs County Education Endowment, Thermopolis Community Fund and Pinnacle Bank.
