Relay for Life moves to Worland

The annual Relay for Life is a prominent event and fundraiser for the American Cancer Society. Relay team members take turns walking around a track or other set path, with each event lasting anywhere from six to 24 hours. Each event also has special events and activities just for survivors and caregivers, such as their own laps prior to the teams’ start.

Though there has been a local event in recent years, some reorganization has combined the Thermopolis Relay for Life chapter with those in Worland, Ten Sleep, Basin, Hyattville and Manderson, forming the Relay for Life of Big Horn Basin. The event is scheduled for 6 p.m. until midnight on Saturday, July 8 at Warrior Stadium in Worland.

Prior to the relays, team members gather donations from their communities, with proceeds going to cancer research and to help cancer patients.

Thermopolis has a couple teams going — the Thermopolis All Stars led by Shurie Scheel and the M & O Eradicators led by Ella Parker. There’s still plenty of time to donate, which people can do online at relay.acsevents.org, or locally at the offices at Tumbleweed Propane, or Messenger and Overfield. Parker noted people might also keep an eye out for opportunities to donate in the community.
