Photographers bring home awards from Cody art show

At the Cody Country Art League’s 52nd Art Show last Friday, Claudia Augstin won second place, along with a cash award, in the amateur photography division for her piece, Cheyenne Train Station.

Augstin stated, “I was surprised when I found out that one of my pieces was selected, and of course very happy about it as well. I am traveling right now. I will be home in the next few days and am looking forward to driving up to Cody to see the whole show. It will be interesting to see how my pieces fit in with the rest.”

Of her piece, she said, “The Cheyenne Train Station was photographed on a cold snowy morning. I did a lot of rubbing out of telephone wires and the things that interfere with the mood of going back to a time when you could tour the countryside by train.”

She was appreciative of the Cody Art Guild for giving artists a place to show their work.

In the professional photography division, it was a clean sweep for Thermopolis. Debbie Stroppel picked up two awards — second place and honorable mention. Her Breaking Away photo of the trees, fog and deer on the golf course got second, and her bison image, 29 Below, got honorable mention.

Jeb Schenck’s image of Waiting Dancer from the Gift of the Waters Pageant took first.

Stroppel’s second and Schenck’s first both came with cash prizes.

Schenck stated, “All in all, we did very nicely and it was great to see. I strongly encourage members and artists to enter next year. There was a lot of variety and some very nice work by other area artists.”
