Several TMS tracksters finish in top 10 at Best of the Best

The Thermopolis Middle School track and field season wrapped up Tuesday with the Best of the Best meet in Lander. Several Bobcats placed in the top 10 in events.

For the seventh grade, Julie Johnson placed second in the long jump at 13’9.75”, and ninth in the 400 meters with a time of 1:08.21. Johnson and Mariah Brooks were among those tying for sixth in the high jump, at a height of 4’2”

The seventh grade girls 4x200 meter relay team of Bronwyn Dobbins, Caydence Becher, Johnson and Brooks placed sixth with a time of 2:05.11.

Wyatt McDermott placed third in the 800 meters with a time of 2:22.24, breaking the previous record of 2:24.00, and eighth in the 1600 meters with a time of 5:28.99.

The seventh grade boys 4x200 meter team of Aydan Cox, Adley Coyne, Hazen Thurgood and Noah Hill placed fifth with a time of 1:59.37.

In eighth grade, Logan Cole placed second in the discus with a distance of 142’2”, and third in the shot put with a distance of 43’1.5”.

Coach Stephanie Czarobski said it was great to bring such a big group, 16 total, to Best of the Best where normally they might have 10.

With regard to the season itself, Czarobski said it was somewhat shorter with rain delays and spring break causing a few bumps. Despite that, she’s proud of the hard work the students put in and the improvement they showed.

In addition to McDermott’s breaking the 800 meter record at Best of the Best, Czarobksi noted he also broke the 1600 meter record at conference with a time of 5:17.41 compared to the previous record of 5:31.00.

Cole also broke the discus record at conference, with a distance of 145’6”; Czarobski said she believed the previous record was 144’. With this being a young team, Czarobski said there are plenty of students returning for next year. Also, she said there are plenty of good eighth graders moving on to join the high school team.

The eighth grade girls 4x200 meter relay team of Brianna DeVries, Jazmen Jensen, Jocelyn White and Dayna Sandberg placed 17th with a time of 2:10.62

Eighth grade boys

200 meters — Jaxson Jensen, 16th, 26.43
