Yarrington, Jenks honored

As part of an effort to encourage more young women to choose careers in technology, the National Center for Women and Information Technology (NCWIT) and its Wyoming Affiliate recognized four high school ladies for their accomplishments and aspirations in computing and technology. The group also selected one Wyoming educator.

Hot Springs County High School’s Shianne Yarrington, a junior, received an honorable mention at the group’s awards ceremony in April at the University of Wyoming.

Yarrington is the first student to be a part of the technology department for the district, is student body vice president and an avid member of both Key Club and National Honor Society.

Her plans are to become a pediatric anesthesiologist and hopefully work at Denver Children’s Hospital.

The single Wyoming educator chosen by NCWIT was London Jenks, high school science teacher, robotics club coach and director of technology for the district.

Jenks is also a national board certified teacher and a senior fellow of the Knowles Science Teaching Foundation.
