We’re officially within two weeks before graduation — 10 days to be exact — and there’s a flurry of activity at the schools, not just in these last few days but the entire month of May as spring sports wrap up their seasons, school programs take to the stage and students go on field trips near and far.
Though the last few days feel like a time to be a bit more lax in the classroom, with summer vacation within sight, I’d encourage students to keep their academic, athletic and extracurricular games strong until that final bell of the year. Remember, you’ve got a few months coming up to goof off to your heart’s content.
For the seniors graduating this year, I wish you the best in your future endeavors whether they be further education, military service, the workforce or just taking some time off while you figure out what you want to do.
On the subject of graduation, my oldest is making the big move from pre-school to kindergarten. Now, I’ve heard these moments can be quite emotional, but as of this week I haven’t really felt anything. Of course, I was the same way before he was born, but when the big moment came I turned into something of a teary-eyed blubbering fool; to those parents also attending the ceremony, I apologize in advance.
These ceremonies are but the waypoints on our roads through education, and through life. To all those looking ahead to summer vacation, I hope this past year and those to come make your journey a memorable one.
