Bobcats continue to set personal records

Saturday at the Jerry Campbell Track Invite in Buffalo, the Hot Springs County High School tracksters took a combined seventh place with 64.5 total points. The girls placed fifth with 46 points, and the boys took ninth with 18.5.

It was another good meet for the boys in terms of personal records, however, with Kolby George's fourth place time of 11:48.63 in the 3200 meters, Chandler Maddock's fifth place height of 11' in the pole vault, Liam Aaron's seventh place 5' in the high jump, Jared Little's 16th place 33' 6.5" in the triple jump and Ryan Johnson's 47th place 15' 11.5" in the long jump.

George won five team points, Maddock won four and Aaron won 1.5

Coach Ernie Mecca said Maddock's hitting another personal record in the pole vault shows he's continually improving.

Though they didn't make any personal records, on the girls team the 4x800 relay team of Aspen Jensen, Jules Ward, Tahja Hunt and Chandra Maddock placed second with a time of 10:48.64, and automatically qualified for state.

Mecca said having another 4x800 team qualify allows for some flexibility for runners on the team at state.

Mecca noted Hunt and Olivia Weyer also stepped up and took the top two spots in the 3200 meters. Hunt won first with a time of 13:11.79, with Weyer's 13:44.52 winning her second. Hunt was high point for the girls, winning 12 points at the meet, and Weyer won 10.

The Bobcats will next compete at the D & D Invite in Worland, 2 p.m. Thursday, April 13. While on spring break, Mecca hopes the high school students will take advantage of the scheduled practices on Wednesday, Thursday and Friday. When break's over, Mecca said they will be in full swing and before you know it regionals - scheduled for May 12 and 13 - will be here.
