Hawk’s Avenue of Flags is currently taking orders for flags until April 24, for those who want them displayed this Memorial Day.
The Avenue of Flags was created in memory of Airman First Class Donald L. “Hawk” Hawkins, by his wife Betty and daughter Julie Lehman, but serves as a memorial for all veterans.
The flags flown are the casket flags used at funerals for servicemen and women, but those who want to keep their casket flags can order a 9’x5’ flag for $65. Each flag is displayed on a 15-foot pole, and each pole adorned with a plaque engraved with the name, rank and branch of the deceased soldier.
Lehman noted a $100 donation is requested for each pole, though arrangements can be made if necessary as they don’t want any soldier to go unrecognized.
Hawk’s Avenue of Flags is also looking for one or more service organization willing to commit to putting up and taking down the flags on Memorial Day and Veterans Day. For more information, call Betty Hawkins at 864-3948 or Julie Lehman at 921-0018.
