Members of the Wyoming Coaches Association recently voted on which 3A boys basketball players are the best in the East and West conferences, and Hudson Roling was among those named for the East, with Noah Schwalbe receiving honorable mention.
Coach Kevin Gerber said from the get go Roling was something of a standout player, being voted a team captain by his teammates. Gerber noted Roling’s skill and leadership not only on the court but off it as well, and he only got better as the season went on.
Roling made the top 10 for the East in scoring, rebounds, assists and steals. His per game averages were 12 points, 5.5 rebounds, three assists and two steals. He also placed in the top 10 for the state, for assists.
Gerber said having Roling out on the court always felt like he had an additional coach, as he got the other boys up and going in the right direction. The biggest change the coach has seen is Roling going from someone who went after his teammates to someone who leads them.
Schwalbe placed in the top 10 for the East in points, rebounds and blocks. His averages per game were 13 points, 6.5 rebounds and one block. He also made the top 10 in the state for rebounds.
Gerber said Schwalbe was another strong player for the Bobcats, and voted a captain by his teammates. On the court, Gerber noted, other teams would focus on Schwalbe, trying to shut him down, and it’s impressive he was still able to keep a double-digit average.
Gerber said both boys have a lot of potential, and he’s excited to see them come back as seniors. The coach also noted it’s harder for them to get recognition in 3A, especially being new to the conference and the coaches not having seen our boys play, and being named all-conference is a big testament to what they can do.
