Friday morning, at the monthly meeting to discuss how to increase local shopping, the main topic taken up was sending out mailers as a “shop local” promotion. The main feature of mailers would be any monthly or quarterly discounts local businesses have.
Rick Tudor presented the idea at last month’s meeting, as he pointed out many people still “live through the mail,” rather than use the internet or social media to do their shopping.
The cost of mailing the fliers through the post office would be about $400 total; however, that does not take into account the costs of printing the fliers, such as type of paper and whether the mailers would be black and white or color. It was also suggested the newspaper could be utilized, sending out an insert rather than a mailer.
Another idea, with regard to sending out the documents, is to tie it in with a season, a holiday such as Memorial Day or Independence Day or a special event that already draws people to town like the Gift of the Waters Pageant or the 2017 Solar Eclipse.
Further discussion on the idea is expected at the next meeting, 8:30 a.m. April 7. The meetings are at Black Bear Café, and the public is welcome to join the discussion and bring any ideas they have.
