Randy Daniel Owsley, 66, died suddenly Sunday, Feb. 12, 2017, at Hot Springs County Memorial Hospital in Thermopolis.
Born December 24, 1950, in Sheridan, Wyo., he was one of six children of Vern and Rosemary (Selig) Owsley. He graduated from H. S. County High School in 1969 and was drafted into the Army that same year. A Medic in Vietnam, he later was a Lab Tech in Germany until being discharged. He returned to Thermopolis where he was a Lab Tech for Hot Springs County Memorial Hospital. During that time he tried out as a Shortstop for the L.A. Dodgers at summer camp.
In 1973 he married Jean Anderson and to this union was born their son, Reese. The couple divorced in 2000.
His employment included R&S Well Service, then Reda Pump until its closure. He attended CWC earning his Associate Degree and established the Black Willow Archery Shop. After a brief battle with colon cancer, he closed the shop and started Owsley Construction in 1994 from which he was recently retired.
Randy's interests included hunting, fishing, camping, motorcycles, baseball, shooting, and watching his grandkids. He could talk to anyone about anything. He is in the Little League Hall of Fame.
He is survived by his mother, Rosemary Horsely of Thermopolis; son, Reese of Thermopolis; brothers, RJ and Brad, both of Thermopolis, Rick of Gillette, Wyo., and Rod of New Mexico; sister, Barbara Hansen of Thermopolis; and three grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his father, Vern; and uncle, Bill.
A Celebration of Randy's life will be Friday, Feb. 17, at 6 p.m. at the VFW Club in Thermopolis. Mortimore Funeral Home is assisting the family. Online remembrances may be offered at http://www.mortfh.com
