Middle school wrestlers have strong showing at home meet

Saturday Thermopolis competed against wrestlers from seven other schools at their home meet, and came away with 110 points.

In A Division 98, Roedy Farrell placed fourth and scored nine team points. Farrell received a bye in Round 1, followed by a 12-5 decision win over Dylan Campbell in the quarterfinal. In the semifinal, Farrell lost by a 9-2 decision to Emma Karhu of Powell. In the consolation semifinal, Farrell won by 6-5 decision to Riley Bennett of Powell. He lost by 11-4 decision to Elijah Hernandez of Riverton.

In the same division, Wyatt McDermott placed second and scored 19 team points. McDermott received a bye in Round 1, then won by a 1:37 fall over Anthony Martinez of Worland and 9-1 majority decision over Hernandez. He lost to Karhu by 4-2 decision.

In A Division 120-126, Jarek Sorensen placed fourth and scored eight team points. Sorenson lost in the quarterfinal by a 1:54 fall to Seth Lynch of Riverton. In Consolation Round 1, he received a bye, and in the consolation semifinal he won by a 38-second fall over Landon Marchant of Lovell. In the third place match, he lost by a 34-second fall to Adrian Geller of Powell.

In A Division 220, Logan Cole placed first and scored 22 team points. Cole received a bye in the quarterfinal, followed with a win by a 2:03 fall over Karson Lamb of Powell in the semi and a win by 2:03 fall of Hyrum Rich of Worland.

In B Division 77, Charlie Sandberg placed third and scored 13 team points. The quarterfinal saw a loss from Sandberg by 5-1 decision to Brendan Pitt of Riverton. In Consolation Round 1, Sandberg received a bye. He won in the consolation semifinal by a 3:25 fall over Kamden Hinkle of Riverton and in the third place match by a 1:40 fall over Pitt.

Also in B Division 77, Tanner Jensen did not place or score any team points. Jensen lost by 8-4 decision to Travis Beckman of Rocky Mountain in the quarterfinal, received a bye in Consolation Round 1 and lost by 17-15 decision to Pitt in the consolation semi.

In B Division 84, Sean Johansen did not place or score any team points. Johansen lost by a 3:24 fall to Joel Padilla of Rocky Mountain in the quarterfinal, and by 13-0 majority decision to Edward Mireles of Riverton in Consolation Round 1.

In B Division 91, Landon Sosa placed second and scored 18 team points. Sosa won by a 2:10 fall over Trystan Royer of Cody in the quarterfinal, and by a 58-second fall over Aiden Reece of Gerybull/Cloud Peak in the semi. He lost in the first place match by a 13-0 majority decision against Joel Vroman of Riverton.

In the same division, Carson Williams placed third and scored 15 team points. Williams lost by a 1:27 fall to Vroman in the quarterfinal, but won by a 1:28 fall over Korbin Heil of Riverton in Consolation Round 1 and by a 2:08 fall over Kyle Anderson of Worland.

In B Division 165-175, Austin Barral placed second and scored 14 team points. Barral won by a 1:50 fall over Allen Jenkins of Powell in Round 1. He lost by a 1:06 fall to Sheldon Shoopman of Powell in Round 2, but finished with a win by 3:48 fall over Colter Thormahlen of Rocky Mountain in Round 3.

In B Division 115, Matt Music did not place or score any team points. Music lost in Round 1 by 2:29 fall to Gavin Langston of Rocky Mountain, in Round 2 by 58-second fall to Jon Nicholas of Worland, in Round 4 by 3:15 fall to Ismeal Rodriguez of Worland and in Round 5 by 26-second fall to Kendrick Beckman of Rocky Mountain.

In B Division 145-155, Brendon Thomas did not place but scored four team points. Thomas won by a 42-second fall over Benjamin Gardner in Round 1. He lost by 45-second fall in the quarterfinal to Nate Minemyer of Rocky Mountain, and by medical forfeit to Evan Tonner of Lovell in Consolation Round 2.

In the same division, Jack Whittaker did not place or score any team points. In Round 1, Whittaker received a bye. He lost by a 15-second fall to Mason McCoy of Riverton in the quarterfinal. He received another bye in Consolation Round 2, and lost by a 38-second fall to Jonny Williams of Cody in Consolation Round 3.

In B Division 220, James Lindquist placed second and scored 12 team points. Lindquist lost by a 7-0 decision to Kris Topaum of Riverton in Round 1, and won by a 3:43 fall over Jason Meschke of Powell in Round 3.

Coach Toby Emery stated, "It's always exciting to wrestle in front of our home crowd and especially fun to see our boys taste victory with their family and friends watching. Their confidence is growing every week and they are becoming more comfortable on the mat. I'm happy with our progress thus far, but we have a long way to go. We will continue to work hard in the practice room and set our sights on the next tournament hosted by Worland."

The Worland tourney is schedule to start at 9:30 a.m.
