Many of the Thermopolis Middle School Wrestling team took placing during the Lovell Invite on Saturday. Team scores were not totaled for the event.
Coach Toby Emery stated, “The boys did very well this weekend and had a lot of success. I think a majority of the wrestlers, including the lesser-experienced wrestlers, surprised themselves and gained a lot of confidence for future competitions. Although we have a lot to work on in the wrestling room, improvements are being made each week by the team.”
In A Division 98, Wyatt McDermott placed first with a bye in the first round, followed with a win by technical fall against Kein Anderson of Worland, a 13-0 majority decision over Dylan Emborg of Billings Wrestling Club and a 1:20 fall win against Roedy Farrell of Thermopolis.
Farrell placed second in the division with a bye in the first round and a 1:08 fall win against Riverton’s Paxton Rees.
In A Division 105, Tyson Medina placed fourth. Medina lost by 9-8 decision to Trey Draper of Riverton, but won by 9-4 decision against Diamond Hill of Worland, and by forfeit against Tate Guidice of Worland. In his last match, he lost by forfeit against Cardon Mickelson of Lovell.
In A Division 120, Jarek Sorenson wrestled but did not place. He received a bye in the first round, and lost to Seth Lynch of Riverton by a 3:59 fall and by 11-6 decision to Colton Woffinden.
In A Division 132 Jackson Jensen placed third. Jensen lost by a 1:40 fall to Trayton Hyatt of Riverton, received a bye in the second round, then won by a 2:04 fall against Christian Peterson of Worland and by a 36-second fall against Myzek McCerthur of Lovell.
In A Division 145, Cole Christiansen placed third. Christiansen lost by 1:45 fall against Zane Horrocks of Rocky Mountain in the first round, won by 1:36 fall against Garrett Cole of Worland in the second and lost by 6-5 decision against Aden Mayes of Lovell in the third.
In A Division 220, Logan Cole placed first after a 1:46 fall win against Lovell’s Quinn Lindsay, a 1:30 fall win against Karson Lamb of Powell and a 2:25 fall win against Tate Clutter of Greybull/Cloud Peak.
In B Division 77, Tanner Jensen placed first with a 2:05 fall win against Treyson Davila of Lovell in Round 1, a bye in Round 2 and a 28-second fall loss against Charlie Sandberg of Thermopolis.
Sandberg placed third in the same division, with a bye in Round 1 and 16-13 decision loss to Davila in Round 2.
In B Division 91, Landon Sosa placed first with a bye in Round 1, a 9-8 decision win against Trey Thomasson of Cody in Round 2 and a 9-2 decision win against Carson Williams of Thermopolis in Round 3.
Williams placed second, with a bye in Round 1 and a 3-2 decision win against Glen Adona of Worland in Round 2.
In B Division 115, Matt Music wrestled but did not place. He received a bye in the first round, but lost by a 1:32 fall to Kendrick Beckman of Rocky Mountain. He went on to win by a 1:26 fall against Nathan Thomas of Worland and by a 5-4 decision against Kade Fitzgerald of Cody, and lost to Landon Marchant of Lovell by a 3:30 fall.
In B Division 145, Jack Whittaker placed fourth after a 49-second fall loss against Toran Graham Powell in Round 1, a 16-second fall loss against Evan Toner of Lovell in Round 2 and a 25-second fall loss against Anthony Estes of Worland in Round 3.
In combined B Division 155 and 165, Brendon Thomas placed fourth with a bye in the first round and a 1:23 fall loss against Colter Thormahlen of Rocky Mountain in the second. Thomas also had a 8-5 decision win against Daniel Grotefend of Powell, and a 58-second fall loss against Danny Becker of Cody.
In B Division 175, Austin Barral placed second. Barral had a 3:16 fall win against Allen Jenkins of Powell in Round 1, a 13-2 majority decision loss against Sheldon Shoopman of Powell and a 2:10 fall win against John Haley of Greybull/Cloud Peak in Round 3.
In B Division 220, James Lindquist placed first. Lindquist had a 1:09 fall win against Isaac Gutierrez of Powell in Round 1, a 3-0 decision loss against Alexis Vazquez of Worland in Round 2 and a 52-second fall win against Jason Meschke of Powell in Round 3.
Thermopolis will host the meet this Saturday, beginning at 9:30 a.m. Coach Emery stated the team is excited to wrestle in front of a home crowd, and he encourages everyone to come watch and support the wrestlers.
