Olsen named first Bobcat Champion

By Cindy Glasson

In true “Publisher’s Clearinghouse” style, Thermopolis Middle School science teacher, Tom Olsen was named Bobcat Champion for Children for December.

The Champion for Children program is replacing the Teacher of the Month award that has been in place for several years.

With the new program, a committee consisting of past District Teachers of the Year and parents receive nominations from the principals at all three schools.

The committee then researches the nominations by visiting with the nominee’s colleagues, students and even community members, then submit their recommendation to Superintendent Dustin Hunt.

Champion for Children will be awarded four times a year and winners will then be in the pool for the honor of District Teacher of the Year.

What makes Champion for Children fun for everyone is not knowing when or how the teacher will be honored, hence the “Publisher’s Clearinghouse” style.

It could be at an assembly or in the classroom, but always in front of students and colleagues.
