The Community Federated Church will host a sale of cookies, candy and gently used shoes, 10 a.m.-4 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 12 at the church.
Those attending the sale can fill a container with delicious homemade cookies, candy and more, choosing as much as they like of whatever they like for only $8 per pound. Though this is the first year for the candy sale, it could turn into an annual event.
Those who would like to donate gently used shoes for the sale can drop them by the church from now until the sale; those who want to donate candy and cookies can bring them to the church the day of the sale. Galyan noted those who bring treats should bring Christmas themed items, rather than the everyday things.
Proceeds from the sales will go to the Building Fund to help with costs of the church’s new building. Ellen Galyan explained the new building will have about a 200-person capacity, along with kitchen space and a meeting room area. She’s hopeful other people will use the building, and though they can’t rent it out the church will accept donations.
The new building, just west of the church, is expected to be up in April. The outside is complete, while work on the inside continues. Galyan said the new building was originally planned as an addition to the church, but they are trying to be conservative and a new building is less expensive as there are no costs associated with attaching it to the church.
On Sunday, Dec. 11, the public is invited to attend a performance of “I Miss the Manger” at the church. Two performances are scheduled, at 8 a.m. and 10:30 a.m., with a coffee hour following the latter.
Ellen Mortimore said this is the first time the play will be performed at the church. The show involves a cast of 10 and a choir. However, it is not a musical.
As for the cast, Mortimore said there are three individual Biblical women, each with an individual monologue about why they miss the manger. There are also three kings, three shepherds and a narrator. Mortimore noted the women’s roles are serious, while those of the shepherds and kings are a bit more humorous.
Regarding the choir, Mortimore said they will perform “Is Your Heart Prepared for Our King,” asking the song’s question throughout the play before singing the full anthem at the finale.
