Shoebox project kicks off at Risen Son

Risen Son Christian School will be participating again this holiday season in the Samaritan's Purse shoebox project.

Shoeboxes are filled with toys, school supplies and other fun items children will enjoy and then shipped around the world to less fortunate areas in time for Christmas.

If you would like to participate, simply use your own shoebox or pick one up in the lobby of Risen Son Southern Baptist Church at 342 Amoretti.

Once you have your shoebox, choose to fill it with items for either a boy or a girl. Select a "wow" toy first, something like a doll, a stuffed animal or a soccer ball with a pump. Then fill in with hygiene items like toothbrushes, school supplies, markers or other fun stuff.

If you would like to donate items instead of filling a box yourself, you may drop them off at the church as well.

There is a $7 charge for mailing each box as shipping charges for one container costs $107 to send and Samaritan's Purse uses all volunteers to package and ship.

If you have questions or would like more information on the shoebox project, please call Sherri Pebbles at 921-8243.
