Both seventh and eighth grade volleyball teams were out of town over the weekend with eighth graders in Cody at their Quad and the seventh graders traveling to Powell for their Quad action.
On the eighth grade side, coach Courtney O’Connor said both A and B teams lost all of their games against Cody and Powell.
“Our serving was strong in the Cody matches for both teams,” O’Connor said, “but Cody just out played us. We let too many balls drop.”
In play against Powell, though, things went a little better.
“The A team had 14 setups and we had set a goal of 15, so we came close,” O’Connor said. “The B team only missed three serves in their match against Powell, and that was a big improvement.”
The seventh grade girls faced off with Powell, the A team losing in three games, however, the B team won in three games.
“Serving was a big factor for Powell,” coach Korinne Thoren said. “We passed some tough serves, but missed our goal of three or less missed serves per game.”
The A team came back to beat Cody, the second time this season.
“The match went a full three games, but the girls played with a lot of toughness,” Thoren said.
The B team also came out strong, but according to Thoren they lost their momentum in the second and third games, letting the win slip by.
“As we enter the last half of our season we continue to make progress,” she said, “but we are working to find that inner spark to keep pushing, continue working together and finish strong. I’m very proud of where the girls are and where they can be headed.”
The middle school girls have home matches this week. The first was against Burlington on Tuesday and will be playing today (Thursday) against Lovell at 4:15.
