TMS volleyball teams working hard

Thermopolis Middle School 7th and 8th grade volleyball teams took on both Riverton and Lander over the weekend, setting and surpassing some team goals.

According to coach Cortney O’Connor, the 8th grade “A” team and “B” team both lost to Riverton in two straight games.

O’Connor said the Lander match was a little closer, with the A team winning the first set, but dropping the next two. The B team lost to Lander in two straight games.

“Despite our losses,” O’Connor said, “the 8th grade team set a goal of getting 10 setups (pass, set, hit) per match, and they surpassed that goal, getting 11 in the first match against Riverton and 14 in the second match against Lander.

“The B team set a goal of making serves over and in, and they did an excellent job of improving their serving, which resulted in their games being much closer in score.”

Korinne Thoren, 7th grade coach, said their “A” team dropped to both Riverton and Lander on Saturday, but the “B” team, although also counting a loss, held their own against Riverton, winning one set.

“Despite our losses, the team has been improving tremendously,” Thoren said. “We struggled a bit with serves, but did very well running rotations, a skill they’ve been working on in practice the past week.

“The girls are settling into the season and their roles on the team. Their enthusiasm builds as we get more accurate with skills and build to setting up the ball regularly in games.”

The middle school teams will face Ten Sleep at home today (Thursday) with the 8th graders serving at 4:30 p.m., followed by the 7th graders.

Saturday will see both teams away, 8th in Cody at the Cody Quad and 7th in Powell at the Powell Quad. Start times are 9 a.m. for both.
