Local Hannah Weyer was one of 83 Wyoming high school students who participated in a University of Wyoming Summer Camp that prepares students for careers in the healthcare field.
During the sixth annual Wyoming Area Health Education Center (AHEC) Healthcare Careers Summer Camp at UW, students were exposed to a variety of healthcare career options.
Students had the option to participate in one of two five-day sessions in July. Students were provided an opportunity to explore several healthcare careers through observation, presentations and interactive activities led by healthcare professionals. They also learned about requirements needed for their chosen healthcare career, and were presented with job opportunities in Wyoming.
The camp exposed students to many healthcare careers including nursing, optometry, radiography, ultrasonography, pharmacy, medicine and speech-language pathology.
Students were able to study anatomy at UW's human cadaver laboratory, make an insect repellent stick in a UW School of Pharmacy Lab, use ultrasonography to view various images and practice suturing skills on chicken breast at Ivinson Memorial Hospital.
We were unable to contact Weyer for an interview.
