Main Street Thermopolis met July 28 to elect new officers and discuss Oktobrewfest.
Treasurer Meri Ann Rush made a motion to elect Suzanne Samelson as President, Johnny Dorman as Vice-President, Shurie Scheel as Secretary and herself as Treasurer. Howie Samelson seconded the motion, and it was carried. The officers are to serve one-year terms from July 1, 2016 through June 30, 2017.
Rush said things are coming along for Oktobrewfest. They have sent out sponsorship and vendor information, and the music has been confirmed. Rush said they have done everything, and they will have to wait until closer to the event to work on the finishing touches.
The group discussed the wayfinding signs that are to be put downtown upon completion. Howie said the person designing the signs is asking for more information and clarification on what Main Street Thermopolis wants and needs. He said he intends to speak with Secretary Shurie Scheel when she returns from Kenya to discuss it further.
Rush also said she received a notification from the Office of Tourism about opening applications for a grant that could be used towards the wayfinding signs. She said she had not read it thoroughly to see what the guidelines are regarding wayfinding signs. She said she would get copies to the group so everyone can read it and see if they want to apply for the grant.
Board member Deb Tudor asked if they were still working on the design for the wayfinding signs they had discussed in prior meetings. Samelson said they were, but with a few tweaks.
The budget for 2016-17 was tabled until the next meeting, Rush said. Scheel gave her a copy of what the group submitted for the Technical Assistance Funds and she had not had a chance to compare what they pulled out for the budget to what they had spent the last year. She said she wanted to concentrate on that a bit more before she works on the budget for next year.
