The Hot Springs County Democratic Committee held a meeting July 20 to appoint members and review ballot issues.
Democratic candidates Jane Norskog, who is running for State Senate District 20, and Howie Samelson, who is running for State Representative for House District 28, attended the meeting.
Samelson ran the meeting pointing out the need for an organization in Hot Springs County for the Democratic Party, and to make sure everyone was aware of the Democratic candidates running in the 2016 election.
Samelson was appointed as Chair of the Democratic Committee, Norskog as Vice-Chair, Brendan Byron as treasurer and April S. Kelley as secretary.
Members of the Democratic Committee voted to support both the formation of a hospital district for the Hot Springs County Memorial Hospital as well as the Specific Purpose Sales and Use Excise Tax.
Support for the Lodging Tax was also unanimously approved by the committee.
The committee also discussed becoming a member of the Chamber of Commerce, and voted to become a member.
The committee is working on setting up a schedule and location for future meetings.
