Many hear the call to join military service, to take up arms and provide their fellow people with a sense of peace and safety.
Carllena Farman, who served in the United States Army from 1981-89 and was honorably discharged as a Specialist E4, recently underwent triple-bypass open-heart surgery at the VA hospital in Denver and has since returned to her home in Thermopolis. However, the veteran, who has lived here since 1991 and will turn 53 next month, currently has no income.
Fellow veteran Jeff Dierks has been organizing an effort to help Farman, as she has been faced with the possibility of losing her home and possessions, but the donations have been few and far between. The past month, he noted, has been spent looking at paying a little here and there, often robbing Peter to pay Paul.
Dierks said this financial worry is something that shouldn’t be on Farman’s plate, as she should instead be focusing on her rehabilitation and recovery. It has not yet been determined whether she can return to work, or when that would be.
An account for Farman has been set up at Big Horn Federal. People can take their donations directly to the bank, or make them online via GoFundMe at http://www.gofundme.com/28tsnxt3. Dierks, who is managing the account, can also be contacted for donations at 864-2497 or 921-4959.
