Fishing derby set for July 16

Kids who want an opportunity to test their fishing skills are encouraged to participate in this year’s Boysen Youth Fishing Derby, 8 a.m.-6 p.m. July 16. There is no cost for the event, but registration is required.

Registration forms are available online via the Boysen State Park Facebook page, and at sites such as the Boysen Marina, Brannon and Tough Creek. They can be brought to Boysen State Park the day of the derby.

However, registrants need to keep the top half of their forms, as they provide a one-day free fishing pass, and can be redeemed for a free fishing pole at the marina or Lip Rippers in Shoshoni .

The derby is open for children up to age 13, but they must have parent or guardian supervision. Fishing boundaries are Boysen Reservoir and the Wind River from the dam to the tunnels.

Participants can release or keep any fish those they choose. Prizes for catches, including poles and other gear, will be given out at 4 p.m. Food and drinks will also be available.
