The Thermopolis Skate Park will be the site of a Skateboard, Scooter and BMX Show Friday, June 17 from 10:30-11:30 a.m. Members of the Central Wyoming Skateboard Association will be performing at the show along with a few local youths.
Barb Rice of the Youth Alternatives Program said she decided a while back the skate park would be a good place for the youths in the program to do some community service. Beginning Sunday, a crew began cleaning and painting at the skate park. Unfortunately, when the crew went to the site on Tuesday morning, new vandalism and graffiti had been done to the park.
“We want to clean up the park to help make it safe,” said Rice. She added there is a strong need for lighting at the park and she is going to start a campaign to accept donations toward lights. She would also like to see a picnic table with a shelter over it and ultimately security cameras in the area.
Rice asks community members to help keep an eye on the skate park and let authorities know if they see any suspicious activity.
Rice said crews are going to continue to work to improve the safety and look of the park throughout the week. She said the Youth Alternatives Program is willing to make a commitment to do regular upkeep at the park.
The event Friday is sponsored by the HSC Library Reading Program in cooperation with the Hot Springs County Recreation District and the Youth Alternatives Program.
