TMS tracksters set records this season

Seventh grader Logan Cole shattered a nearly 40-year-old record in the Long Jump this school year, with a distance of 17’ 7.75”. The previous record of 17’ 3” was set by Jon Lesher in 1977.

There were quite a few records broken by the Thermopolis Middle School Track and Field, which ended their regular season on May 7.

Cole also set the record in the Shot Put with a distance of 43’ 2” — the previous record was John Balstad’s 41’ 1” n 1989 — and in the Discus with a distance of 146’ 9.5” — the old record of 124’ 2” was set in 1983 by John Wallace.

Wyatt McDermott, a sixth grader, had a time of 2:32.76 in the 800 Meter Run, beating the 2:39.66 record set by Chandler Maddock in 2013. McDermott also set the record in the 1600 Meter Run at 5:40.86; Ben Eaton had the previous record of 6:19.00 in 2010.

Eighth grade student Tahja Hunt set a record in the 1600 Meter Run with a 5:49.34, beating the 1990 record of 5:59.82 set by Misty Voorhees.

Eighth-grader McKenna Bomengen set the record in the 800 Meter Run at 2:32.62, beating Chandra Maddock’s 2013 time of 2:38.24. Bomengen also set the record in the 100 Meter Hurdles — a new event started last year to replace the 75 Meter Hurdles — at 18.65.
