Commissioners appoint board members

Hot Springs County Commissioners voted and appointed new members to local boards at Tuesday's meeting.

Bill Williams and Dan Herdt were appointed to the Hospital Board. Gregg Voigt and Barb Heinze were appointed to the Museum Board. Steve Johnston was appointed to Weed & Pest. No one was appointed to the two openings on the Library Board, as no applications were received. Chairman John Lumley said the Library Board openings must be advertised again to try and fill those spots.

County Coordinator Bill Gordon updated the County Commissioners on Emergency Management plans. Gordon said he would be willing to take on the job of writing up evacuation plans, after a security meeting. He said it would take commitment from departments and offices in those departments, figuring out what needs to happen and who will be responsible for what. He also said this next level of planning is of utmost importance.

Gordon said the next public Mitigation Planning meeting will be at 5 p.m. Tuesday, June 14 at the Big Horn Federal Building.

"By May of next year, everyone in our community will be involved in this planning process," he said. "Your input from your perspective as commissioners will be invaluable."
