On the Record policy

It is the Independent Record’s policy that all people arrested or cited under the “Accidents,” “Sheriff’s office” or “Police calls” in the On the Record section are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.

Tuesday, May 17

6:41 a.m. Report of a dead deer struck between Thermopolis and Kirby. The animal was unable to be located.

Wednesday, May 18

10:52 a.m. Report of a caller stating a person had to pay, or else be arrested as a terrorist. Complainant did not give out any personal information or money to the caller.

10:37 a.m. Report of someone striking the gate at Legend Rock. A vehicle was not located.

Saturday, May 21

3:16 p.m. A driver was cited for speeding, travelling at 82 miles per hour. It was found the driver had issues with his license and he was also ticketed for a cancelled license.

Tuesday, May 17

10:54 a.m. Report of a found iPad. The owner of the device was located.

3:34 p.m. A flatbed reported stolen a couple years ago was found at the county fairgrounds. The owner and the trailer were reunited.

3:32 p.m. Caller thought a child at Thermopolis Middle School was not supposed to be there. The individual was waiting on his girlfriend.

6:11 p.m. Report of someone vandalizing the hood of a 2002 silver Toyota with a sharp object.

Wednesday, May 18

11:47 a.m. Caller reported lending a camper trailer to a friend in 2013, but it had not yet been returned.

12:56 p.m. Report of air being let out of the right rear tire of a vehicle. The right front tire was also low. It was determined the sidewalls were punctured on both.

3:43 p.m. A male subject was cutting his grass and was being bothered by another subject requesting he also cut his grass.

5 p.m. Following a bullying incident, parents of both parties were spoken to and it was advised the juveniles should stay apart.

Thursday, May 19

11:53 a.m. Complaint regarding items in a yard that also had grass that needed cutting.

2:51 p.m. Male subject reported he was walking his dog, when four other dogs came at him and his pet. One of the other dogs caught him by the pant leg.

7:30 p.m. Report of boys attempting to get into the middle school dance who did not belong there.

Friday, May 20

8:15 a.m. Report of a cat in a trap. The animal was taken to the vet clinic.

8:29 a.m. Report of a cat in a trap. The animal was taken to the vet clinic.

9 a.m. Caller reported finding kittens abandoned by their mother in a wood pile. The kittens were taken to the vet clinic and turned over to people who are fostering them.

10:49 a.m. Report of a juvenile bit by a dog. The dog was current on its rabies vaccination, and the child’s mother did not push the issue of having it put down.

8:40 a.m. Report of a ferret on the loose. The animal was caught once, but someone let it go. It was spotted around the 100 block of South D Street.

Saturday, May 21

9:53 a.m. Complainant advised kids were throwing items at passing cars. Contact was made with a juvenile, who promised he would not do it any more.

11:18 a.m. Caller took a dog into custody for fear it would be run over. The dog was later impounded.

1:54 p.m. Caller reported losing a rental key for a Jeep in the Thermopolis area. The key is black with several buttons on it, and was not reported found as of May 24.

8:05 p.m. Caller found a black cat, and was planning to keep it until the owner was found.

Sunday, May 22

1:29 a.m. Report of an animal bite within a home. A girl was roughhousing with a dog, which nipped her. The nip was attributed to the rough playing, and the animal is current on rabies vaccination.

8:26 a.m. Report of a missing blue slider phone that was not found as of May 24.

6:39 p.m. A dog was found, and the reporting party planned to keep the animal until the owner was located. The owner was found, provided information and reunited with the dog.

Monday, May 23

12:44 a.m. Complainant reported dogs that had been barking for over an hour. The dogs’ owner was not at home, but was later contacted and said they would take care of them.

8:06 a.m. Amber Steadman Brill turned herself in, as she had a warrant against her, and was booked into the detention center. She was released the same day.

8:46 a.m. Notification by a mother from Cody, who was concerned her daughter’s father would try to contact the juvenile while she was on a field trip. No such contact was made.

1:47 p.m. A couple was seen arguing in a parking lot. It appeared the female subject’s belongings were on the ground. When officers arrived, a male subject was already gone. It was later determined the two were arguing, and the female asked to be let out of the vehicle.

4:52 p.m. A dog resembling a black Labrador was reported to be on the loose and running through yards. The dog was later impounded.

8:12 a.m. Male subject reported receiving harassing text messages.

Circuit court

A preliminary hearing for Matthew Schwan is continued until June 30 at 3 p.m.

A preliminary hearing for Christopher Taylor is continued. If Taylor is still in jail, the hearing will be May 26 at 10 a.m. If he has bonded out, the hearing will be June 6 at 3 p.m.

Joel Coleman was found guilty of use of a controlled substance and was sentenced to 90 days in jail with 88 days suspension and six months unsupervised probation. Fees and fines are $640.

Amber Steadman Brill was found guilty of theft under $1,000, and sentenced to 20 days in jail with 19 days suspension and six months unsupervised probation. Fines and costs are $490, and restitution is $126.43.

Shane Boren was found guilty of driving under the influence equal to or more than .08 percent, third offense, beating or torturing an animal and driving with a suspended license. He was sentenced to 180 days in jail with 173 days suspension and six months supervised probation. Fines and fees are $1,370.

Michael Campbell was found guilty of driving under the influence equal to or more than .08 percent, second offense, interfering with a peace officer, exceeding 30 miles per hour in an urban district and endangering a child. He was sentenced to 365 days in jail with 268 days suspension and two years supervised probation. Fines and fees are $690.

Abigail Schallot was found guilty of use of a controlled substance, and sentenced to 30 days in jail with 30 days suspension and six months unsupervised probation. Fees and fines are $590.

Quardale Bales was found guilty of possession of a controlled substance, and was sentenced to 45 days in jail with 45 days suspension and six months unsupervised probation. Fees and fines are $640.

Kendra Wozney was found guilty of driving under the influence .08 percent of more. Fees and fines are $640.
