It was another weekend of broken records and high scoring for the Bobcats, as they competed at the Regional Track Championships in Lander last Friday and Saturday. The boys team came home champions, winning with a total of 124 points.
The boys 4x100 Relay team of Domanic Jensen, Cody Bjorhus, Tyler Cornwell and Jacob Hart set the school record for the third time, and the regional meet record, with a first place finish of 44.28. Coach Ernie Mecca hopes to see the team run their best at the state meet, as they have a shot at the state record.
Personal record setters at the meet include: Domanic Jensen for a first place time of 51.17 in the 400 Meters, 52.11 in the 400 Meter preliminaries and 23.59 in the 200 Meter preliminaries; Cullen Becher for a first place time of 2:00.70 in the 800 Meters; Cody Bjorhus for a first place time of 23.20 in the 200 Meters; Ethan Becher for a 44.80 in the 300 Hurdles preliminaries and a fifth place time of 2:06.12 in the 800 Meters; Alex Jensen for 11:57.92 in the 3200 Meters; Kolby George for 11:55.96 in the 3200 Meters and 5:30.63 in the 1600 Meters; Jared Little for 32' 45" in the Shot Put; Logan Meier for 30' 3.5" in the Shot Put and 90' 1" in the Discus; and Trey Davis for 49.49 in the 300 Hurdles.

Mecca pointed out there were a lot of girls that did great. Jules Ward and Chandra Maddock both broke the school record and their personal records in the 800 Meters. Ward had the faster time with a second place finish of 2:21.91, just beating Maddock's third place time of 2:21.97, but both knocked a couple seconds off the previous record of 2:24.00. Crystal Hostetter set that record in 2002.
The 4x800 Relay team of Ward, Maddock, Maggie Ryan and Haley McDermott took a team personal record, finishing first with 10:17.36
Other personal record setters were: Haley McDermott for a third place height of 8' in the Pole Vault; Maggie Ryan for a seventh place time of 5:53.02 in the 1600 Meters; Liz Rhodes for a fourth place distance of 99' 10" in the Discus; and Josi Thurgood for 54.16 in the 300 Hurdles preliminaries.
Mecca expressed his appreciation to the parents and fans that sat outside for two days to support the teams, and noted those with first or second place finishes in any event also earned All Conference honors.
The boys' and the girls' Hot Springs Track and Field teams will each take eight members when they head to the State Championships at Casper this Thursday, Friday and Saturday.
There is a good core of varsity letter winners, Mecca said. He noted both teams are eligible to take points at State, and possibly the championship.
