Goodbye to Lady Liberty

Dearest Lady Liberty,

It is with a heavy heart and deepest regret that I write you on behalf of the American people. Your light shown over our country brightly for all to see and served as an ever present reminder of what our forefathers held in highest esteem, freedom. For you they cast off the shackles of rulers, kings and tyrants. They longed for you as a lover longs for her soulmate because they lived in a darkened, authoritarian world that didn’t have your light, but now our country has grown tired of your light. Through our lethargy and slothful ways, we have allowed tyranny to creep its malevolent tentacles throughout our government; your light wanes.

The kings of old told us that moral authority flows from God to the monarch to the people, but with your light we saw that God gives moral authority directly to the people who empower the government.

Unfortunately, we were loath to uphold our sacred duty and surrendered our moral authority to the government. As an end result, when we look to see what is right or wrong we first look to the law books; your light wanes.

I beseech your forgiveness; for the arms that we bore, to ever stand at your defense and protection, we laid down. Oh, Lady Liberty, they cost too high a price that we were too craven and weak to burden ourselves with. Now the hounds of tyranny tear at your robes and bite at your limbs; your light wanes.

Oh, Lady Liberty, I fear we must tell you goodbye, but may your effigy stand through the dark times ahead to serve as a sentinel for a wiser, future generation. I pray they may remove our blinders, that we may know darkness for darkness, and in so doing, we may yet return to you.

Sincerely and with deepest love,

concerned Patriot

P.S. When we return, may we never leave or forget you again.
