Richard H. "Dick" Groh, 85, passed away Saturday, May 7, 2016, at Hot Springs County Memorial Hospital in Thermopolis after a brief illness.
Born March 27, 1931, in Mason City, Iowa, he was the son of August H. and Lillian (Reigate) Groh, Sr. Following graduation, he served in the US Army in Korea.
He married Mardyss A. "Marti" Johnson in Keystone, S. D. Until their 3 children were grown, Marti and the family moved with Dick wherever he was employed.
Dick's occupation as an electrician included living in many countries. Coming to Casper, Wyo., in the late 1960s, he worked for PP&L and transferred to Thermopolis in 1972, which was always home for the family. He worked for ARAMCO while living in Saudi Arabia. Then he was employed by OASIS while living in Tripoli, Libya and Athens, Greece. His occupation also took him to Guam, Antarctica and the US Virgin Islands.
Following retirement, Dick enjoyed caring for his country property, irrigating, fishing with his grandchildren, playing cards and cribbage and just being with his family. He attended the First Baptist Church.
He is survived by his wife, Marti; son, Rick (Kathy) Groh of Thermopolis; daughters, Kim (Troy) Slaybaugh of Tempe, Ariz. and Kristi (Byron) Cogdill of Downey, Idaho; sister, Verna Gourley of Mason City, Iowa; grandchildren, Dereck, Heather, Kaitlin, Ty, Christopher, Tavis, Alyssa, Kaylee, Taron and Hannah; and five great-grandchildren.
A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date.
