The annual Wyoming Reads celebration for first-graders was held at the Ralph Witters Elementary library on Tuesday.
Hot Springs County Library Youth Services Librarian Sue Hurd read a book to first-graders, explained Summer Reading at Hot Springs County Library and presented students with a free book that they chose back in October.
"All of the first graders in the state will be getting a book from the Sue Jorgenson Library Foundation," Hurd said. "They are given to students so they will be life-long readers."
The first-graders chose one of the following six books to receive from the Sue Jorgensen Library Foundation: 11 Experiments that Failed by Jenny Ofill and Nancy Carpenter, The Day the Crayons Came Home by Drew Daywalt and Oliver Jeffers, Dewey Bob by Judy Schachner, If You Ever Want to Bring an Alligator to School, Don't by Elise Parsley, Joone by Emily Kate Moon or That is NOT a Good Idea by Mo Willems.
John Jorgensen, of Casper, leads a group of civic leaders and educators to present this annual literacy celebration for the state of Wyoming. The Sue Jorgensen Library Foundation was established in 1996 and founded the Casper Care, Casper Reads celebration in 1999 to honor his late wife's commitment to children and literacy.
